Wholesale Capacity
Operating only at the transport facility level, the GBI™ network will not compete with operators or service providers for their clients. Rather, the network will provide a means for operators to serve their clients with higher reliability and lower cost.
GBI plans to provide a full range of wholesale international capacity products designed the meet the current and future requirements of telecoms operators, Internet service providers, content providers, corporate customers and governments around the Gulf.
Industry Standard Choices
The choice of products that are planned for the GBI subsea system will provide the ability for carriers to offer the whole range of voice, data and internet services. The GBI cable subsea product range is based upon three distinct categories of industry standard international connectivity products:
Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) Product Line
These are the core international wholesale products used by telecoms operators to deliver international voice and data services. They are based on the industry standard Synchronous Transport Mode (STM) and cover a range of capacities: STM1 (155 Mbps); STM4 (622 Mbps); STM16 (2.4 Gbps); STM64 (9.9 Gbps). They will provide full ring-protected bandwidth services in the Gulf so that if one part of the cable is damaged, service will continue using the other part of the ring.
Wavelength Product Line
These are a newer generation of services based on using the multiple wavelengths available on each fiber the fiber optic cable. Unprotected wavelengths at 10Gbit/s level will be provided to fulfill the needs of ISPs and other users who need high capacity, low cost bandwidth within the region or between the Gulf and Europe or India.
Ethernet Product Line
These are another new generation of services which are rapidly growing across the global telecoms industry. GBI will provide industry standard 1Gbps and 10Gbps Ethernet interfaces.
